Amateur Radio EMERGENCY Vehicle License Plates

The State of Tennessee is issuing new vehicle license plates this year.  However, amateur radio operators renewing their amateur radio vehicle “EMERGENCY” registration plates are NOT receiving new plates.  When you renew, make sure the clerk knows that you’re renewing your existing plates and NOT receiving a new one.  You will only receive a new registration card and the annual sticker for your existing plate.

For new amateurs and others wishing to obtain an amateur radio EMERGENCY plate, please note the following:

1)      They’re available to Tennessee residents who hold an official FCC-issued amateur radio license (unrevoked and unexpired).

2)    Complete an application supported with copy of your FCC amateur radio license.

3)    In addition to your county wheel tax (if applicable), the annual fee is $26.50.  Members of emergency, rescue squad, and amateur radio service are eligible.  In most counties, the discount for ARES® members is now applied to ALL amateurs.

4)    EMERGENCY plates are available for passenger vehicles and motorcycles.

For further information, click on:

https://www.tn.gov/content/tn/revenue/title-and-registration/license-plates/available-license-plates/emergency-and-safety/amateur-radio.html

Skywarn Weather Classes

I found this information on Fakebook and thought I would share it with you.....as I know several have asked about Skywarn Weather Classes.....

Sadly, it appears that the National Weather Service Morristown WILL NOT be offering in-person SKYWARN Classes anytime soon. The Federal Government still has the MRX Meteorologists restricted on public events due to COVID-19. However, I come to you with some fantastic news. The folks at the NWS Morristown office have put together an all new Virtual Skywarn Training Class. This will be the preferred method to get certified or recertified until MRX is able to resume In-Person Classes. You can access the new training by clicking this link https://storymaps.arcgis.com/.../bd6cffba42de4339981758ce.... Once you complete the course, you will find a FINAL EXAM. You MUST PASS THE EXAM with at 70% or higher to become certified or recertified. As a reminder SKYWARN Spotters are REQUIRED to complete training and PASS the FINAL EXAM every 2 years. If you have not been recertified since 2020, please click the link and take the course at your earliest convienience.
