Welcome to the TLARC home on groups.io
Hi all,
We had a terrific meeting last night at the Chota Rec Center, where vice president Juan AC6ZM presented on our FD 2018 Survey Results and demonstrated WebSDR for us all (amazing!). Recaps coming separately. We also had some discussion on rev'ing up the "member communications" aspect of our club ... and that's where this email and invitation comes into play. This email group on "groups.io" is very popular now in ham circles and is a great (private) way for everyone to easily communicate with others, post photos and documents for the others to see, and generally stay better in touch regarding club activities. More info once you accept the invite and and start reading the email blog on the main page. All you need to do to post a message for all to see is to send an email to tlarc.groups.io, or just reply to the message you're currently viewing on the board itself. This groups.io email board is Part 1 of our "member communications" effort. Part 2 is the club website, which is being constructed right now and will soon be online as the main landing page for all things TLARC. We've secured our domain (www.tlarc.org) and it will be live in pretty quick order. More details soon, but it will be better (and cheaper) than TellicoLife, and way more flexible! So let us all know what you like and don't like about the direction our "club communications" is heading, or even feel free to contact me directly about it. 73, George N2APB n2apb (at) MidnightDesignSolutions (dot) com

George; thanks for stepping up and offering your skills in this area.
Juan; thanks for an interesting presentation on SDR.ORG, I found myself on that and trying to find the activity on my radio until 12:30 AM............... I had some luck, but know I need to get a better antenna up.

California QSO Party (6 October 2018)
TLARC,
Even though the sunspots are at a minimum, let's get together to mount a serious effort in this year's California QSO Party (CQP). CQP is the nation's biggest state QSO party, and it's a lot of fun going after the clean sweep of all 58 counties in California. They have participation certificates and many other operating awards for this event. Tennessee usually has decent propagation to California, and there are a truck load of active hams in W6. I know...me and Mike (KK6OKU) are transplants from 6 land. In addition, if we get lucky and there is an opening on 10 meters, there can be a bottomless pit of California stations to be worked by calling "CQ California" on 10 meter SSB. Our afternoon is usually the best time for 10 meter propagation. Mark your calendars, and get your beams and wires pointed West on October 6. Let's overwhelm the California Contesters with activity from Tennessee. The Tennessee Contest Group will surely put on an impressive assualt since this year is their 25th annivesary. Our club is young but full of ambition and mny operators. Get "Radio Active" and make an effort to get on the air from somewhere for this event. You can find the rules for this QSO Party at http://www.cqp.org/ They also have a power point presentation at http://www.cqp.org/files/CQP2018-Presentation.pptx Send me any of your questions. 73 Juan AC6ZM

Let me know if you need some help with setting up an antenna. Many options are available for even the most restrictive places.

Re: Sweetwater Amateur Radio Club Tailgate Hamfest
Sharron Fritts <ssfritts@...>
Just to clarify: The Sweetwater Hamfest is not sponsored or held by a club. It is actually the brainchild of and run by two local Sweetwater Hams, Virgil Wyrick W4OLJ, and Norm Leggett W7IUC. However, the Hamfest has been supported since it's first year by members of the Monroe Amateur Radio Club who have handled talk-in, parking, flyer design & production, and sign design & construction.

Club Website .... www.TLARC.org
Hi all,
The first version of our new website is up and on its wobbly legs now! ... www.tlarc.org We are adding more and more content in the coming days/weeks, and hope to make this a useful service to all members, and to draw in new hams from local (and distant) areas. The purpose is to provide easily-accessible, useful and interesting information relating to our TLARC activities and to the specific interests of all our members. For example: 1) The "basics" are along the top menu banner: Membership, Meeting Recaps, Photo Gallery, etc. 2) Quick Links column on the left for often-used informational links, grouped by topics of interest to club members. My own is "Boat Anchors" and homebrewing, and I sense there are other topics of interest such as Contesting, Field Ops, QRP, ARES, and more. Want to see a specific topic listed here? Just let me know and we can work to get some good links representing those too! 3) The big Club News section in the middle is intended to present timely information such as the upcoming Hamfest, verious contests and club-related activities. Anyway, there's lots more to come and I hope to work with you all to make this a useful resource for everyone on the club. Please check it out and let us know your thoughts! 73, George N2APB TLARC Webmaster

Juan Lopez
George,
Nice Job so far. I pulled up the site on my PC. I will let you know how it looks on the cell web browser. The banner on the home page is nice. Under the contesting tab on the left of the home page, put a link to www.3830scores.com and www.contestcalendar.com You might also want to include our club call some where in the banner. It is KN4DUA. You can use the picture attached as it is what shows up on QRZ.com
Also, attached is an ARRL award for the RTTY contest we participated in. You might want to post it on the website.

Re: Sweetwater Amateur Radio Club Tailgate Hamfest
More details from Sharon ...
Just to remind all, the hamfest is on Saturday.
If anyone is coming from Sweetwater (or from the south), Murray's Chapel Road is the 1st right past the freeway overpass (before the hotel and flea market)
Please park in the field before getting to the area at the top of the hill where sellers are set up. Handicapped parking is at the top just past the pavilion and in front of the little farmhouse.
Coffee and donuts are at the pavillion.
Talk-in is 145.25 with a 100hz tone.

The website is lookin' good George. Thanks for your expertise in creating it. One thing I would add is the CTCSS tone for the 442.100 repeater in the header. It is 100.0 Hz in and out. BB

October 3rd test of IPAWS National EAS and WEA Test
The Tellico Lake Amateur Radio Club (TLARC) President Sam Howard has asked [Brent Howard] to send out information to all members and friends about the national test of the Integrated Public Alert and Warning System (IPAWS) test. This test will begin on October 3 at 2:18 pm EDT and the EAS message is planned to be sent as a text message at 2:20 pm to all US cell phones.
I have attached a FEMA Fact Sheet for your further reading if you are interested. The test is intended to assess the readiness to distribute an emergency message nationwide and determine if improvements are needed.
