QST Article on Mountain-Topping Ops
Chuck Ferguson - N4CSF
Good morning! As many of you may already know, the Feb 2022 edition of QST has a really interesting article about mountain-topping ops. It features McMinn County ARC (Athens) members, who organize mountain-top field events in and around the Great Smoky Mountains. They work a variety of FM & HF phone bands, POTA, SOTA, as well as APRS and other digital modes. Of course, mountain tops provide some of the most effective antenna “masts” and lines of sight around. The article shows you can have lots of fun running field ops events while honing your portable system skills and gaining valuable EMCOMM working experience.

From the google group of the DMR network in New England, comes a report of the temperature at the summit of Gunstock Mountain in New Hampshire.

Gunstock Summit was -50 with wind-chill this morning.
A toasty -6 without.
Snowmakers we're being shuttled up in heated groomers only to make quick snowgun adjustments. No more tracked ATV's, too cold.

Robin & Ralph, I really appreciate the invites, and the thought that y'all have put into this get together! Unfortunately, we will be attending my son's wedding on Saturday so we're a little tied up. Change of Plan for Saturday Lunch
Robin Monserrat
TLARC members & friends - Since the whole point of getting together is to spend a great time with each other, we're changing the plan for Saturday's lunch. So instead of hauling ourselves to Pigeon Forge, we're going instead to Lakeside Tavern which, if you haven't been there, is in a really pretty spot on the river in Concord, right off Northshore Drive. Very easy to reach, good food, ample space, lots of parking. Hope to see you there at 12 noon on Saturday! Lakeside Tavern 10911 Concord Park Dr, Knoxville, TN

SILENT KEY ESTATE SALE
Kurt Meltzer
Hi Fellows ;
This is a re-post of a message I sent out to Smoky Mountain ARC members. The pre-eBay discounted pricing is being offered to TLARC members, in addition to SMARC members, during the month of January. Unfortunately I cannot reserve items longer than 60 minutes, but In case anyone is interested in any of these items please call before driving over to confirm the item is still available and I will be happy to hold it for up to 60 minutes until you arrive. I'm usually available between 11a-11p, seven days per week. Thanks for looking. Kurt Meltzer KC4NX, 5924 Nine Mile Road, Maryville TN 865-659-3898. Dear fellow SMARC members: The widow of long-time club member Sam Holloway, KK4HCF (SK March 2020 at age 65, cancer) has requested my assistance liquidating her late husband's radio gear. Sam had a nice assortment of rigs and accessories. Please visit the "Radio Marketplace" tab at W4OLB.org website to view this gear. It will be available throughout January, 2022 for cash & carry sale exclusively to SMARC members at discounted pricing. Items not purchased by SMARC members will be moved to eBay beginning in February. All gear is available for in-person inspection and air testing at my QTH during January. Please email, text, (or call between 11a-11p) for an appointment to inspect or purchase any of this fine equipment. Thanks for looking. Kurt Meltzer, KC4NX mre1032@... 865-659-3898.
