An approaching weather system will impact the area tonight through Thursday. The main impact will be strong winds on Wednesday, especially in the Appalachian Mountains.

Current Watches, Warnings, or Advisories:

• High Wind Warning: in effect from 1 AM Wednesday through 7 PM Wednesday evening for the East Tennessee Mountains 
• Wind Advisory in effect from 1 AM Wednesday through 7 PM Wednesday evening for the Cumberland Plateau Counties.
• A Wind Advisory is in effect from 7 AM Wednesday through 7 PM Wednesday evening for the central and southern Tennessee Valley and southwest North Carolina Counties.
• A Wind Advisory is in effect from 10 AM Wednesday to 7 PM Wednesday evening for the northeast Tennessee Valley and southwest Virginia Counties.

What has changed:  No major changes since this morning's briefing, confidence is increasing in strong winds for Wednesday.

Primary Hazards

• Hazard:  Winds
  
• What: Wind gusts up to 50 mph
  
• Where: Across the Tennessee Valley and including southwest North Carolina and southwest Virginia especially in the higher elevations.
  
• When: Early Wednesday morning through Wednesday night.

• Hazard: Mountain Wave Winds
  
• What:  Wind gusts between 60-70 mph, isolated higher gusts (90+mph) possible on the highest peaks
• Where: East Tennessee mountains and foothills
• When: Overnight tonight through Wednesday.

• Hazard:  Snow
  
• What: Light Snowfall accumulations
• Where: Higher elevations of East Tennessee mountains and southwest VA
• When: Wednesday night through Thursday evening.
