--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Greetings,

As cold air funnels into the area, lingering rain showers will transition to snow late tonight into Friday morning. This snowfall will be very elevation-dependent with many places seeing little to no accumulation. Across the highest elevations of the Tennessee mountains, snowfall accumulations in excess of 1 foot are expected. With these extreme snowfall accumulations, this raises concern for power outages in these select areas.

Current Watches, Warnings, or Advisories:

What has changed: Forecast snowfall totals have increased across all of the higher elevations, and concern has increased for potential power outages within the warning area.

Primary Hazards

  • Hazard: Heavy Snowfall Accumulations
    • What: 2 to 6 inches of snow over the foothills and 12 to 20 inches across the highest terrain and potential power outages in the highest elevations
    • Where: Tennessee mountains and foothills from Monroe County to Johnson County
    • When: Late this evening through Saturday morning
  • Hazard: Lighter Snowfall Accumulations
    • What: Widely varied snowfall totals from 2 inches up to 6 inches in the higher elevations
